CALVARY ST. AUGUSTINE
ABOUT CALVARY ST. AUGUSTINE
In 2008, after an analysis and much prayer, Calvary Episcopal Church, Northern Liberties and St. Augustine Church of the Covenant began to discuss the possibility of a merger. Several meetings were held and on January 4, 2009, the two Vestries began to finalize the details of merging.
On February 15, 2009, Calvary Episcopal Church, Northern Liberties and St. Augustine Church of the Covenant held their first service as a merged congregation. The two congregations worked to save their histories and traditions for continued mission and ministry. Then on March 8, 2009, the two chose the name Calvary St Augustine Episcopal Church. The services were co-officiated by the Reverend George O. Master, II and the Reverend Renee McKenzie-Hayward.
Calvary St. Augustine continued to move forward under the leadership and guidance of the Reverend Renee McKenzie-Hayward by providing hope and joy in various ministries and community programs. In October 2011, the Reverend Renee McKenzie-Hayward was called to serve at the Church of the Advocate in central North Philadelphia.
Then in November 2011, the Reverend Isaac Miller was called from retirement to serve as the Interim Rector of Calvary St. Augustine Episcopal Church. He along with the Vestry and congregation continue to work to uplift the community and the people of God. “We are one in the spirit; we are one in the Lord.”
